New Workday consultant ... what is this career like?

I was just hired as an Integrations Consultant in Chicago. I am in my mid 20s and recently finished a business Master's degree.

I'm excited about Workday and feel lucky for the job and the training. But two months ago I didn't know what Workday was, and I don't understand what a career in the Workday ecosystem actually looks like.

My concern is, I studied some comp sci in college and always excelled at it. I'm not shy when it comes to technical nitty gritty or math-heavy stuff either. Am I throwing away the competitive edge that this aptitude gives me by starting a career in an already user-friendly cloud space? Or will I find ways to leverage programming to further my career in Workday and distinguish myself from peers?

My family believes it would be best to transition to development soon (like in the next year) and leave Workday behind. This would mean a lot of after-work studying and possibly relocation to a more expensive city. It might also mean higher salary and more social prestige.

But if Workday is going to provide possibly remote opportunities and a $100k+ salary, I might prefer to enjoy my life (this is not completely impractical--I feel like mid life crises are rougher on people who feel they didn't enjoy their youth, which could mean lost $$ and relationships down the line).

I mean, to be honest, my preference would be to give the Workday ecosystem two years of good work. Spend my free time getting some muscles, learning to cook, and enjoying having some money and my own place for the first time. And then in 2 years, I'd make a decision on whether to career switch to software development. Does this seem like a decent plan? I guess I worry about being pigeonholed into Workday, or a career change in my late 20s, or getting complacent. Any insight on what to do from wiser folks would be much appreciated.
